Planting

We are passionate about replacing trees wherever possible, and we are always happy to recommend trees to suit your garden.

If you want your new trees to have the best start in life the most important consideration are root health, weather, soil condition and aftercare.

Planting trees

Planting trees is usually recommended between October – November, as long as the soil isn’t waterlogged or frozen.

Handy tips

Choose the right location: Make sure to select a spot with enough sunlight and well-draining soil. Consider the tree’s size at maturity and ensure it has enough space to grow.
Select the right tree: Research the types of trees that are suitable for your climate and soil conditions. Consider factors such as height, spread, and root system.
Dig a proper hole: The size of the planting hole should be at least twice as wide as the tree’s root ball and just as deep. Loosen the soil in the bottom of the hole to encourage root growth.
Plant the tree correctly: Remove the tree from its container and gently loosen the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, making sure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill the hole with soil, making sure to tamp it down to remove air pockets.
Water and mulch: Water the tree thoroughly after planting, and continue to water it regularly, especially during the first few months. Mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Prune and care for the tree: Prune any damaged or dead branches, but avoid over-pruning. Provide the tree with proper care, including fertilization, pest control, and regular watering.
Monitor the tree’s growth: Keep an eye on the tree’s health and growth, and address any issues promptly. Consider hiring a professional arborist for ongoing care and maintenance.
Remember that planting a tree is a long-term commitment, and it requires proper care and attention to ensure its successful growth and development.
